Whenever someone comes to visit me in New Mexico I have to bring them to the White Rock Overlook. It is a bit over thirty minutes north of Santa Fe, and it has a balcony that stands over a cliff overlooking the "Rio Grande" and the big Mesas (plateaus) where Los Alamos is located.
The drive up to the overlook is gorgeous. It makes you feel like you are about to drive into emptiness right before you reach a small roundabout were you can leave your car. The walk up to the balcony gives you the same feeling.
There is also great rock climbing right below the balcony, although getting down there can be a little bit scary.
This is one of those places that I will miss once I move away. Definitely worth seeing if you are going to be in Los Alamos, or if you go to Valles Caldera (a post about this coming soon)
