Big Sur

About a month ago we went on a day trip to Big Sur. We drove down the famous highway 1 and just stopped on the side of the road whenever things got pretty. Now that school is over we can enjoy our weekends, and we have been! Northern California has been beautiful so far. We are the luckiest to be able to live here, so we will try to soak in as much of it as we can.

The whole day was very foggy and quite chilly, but it was still enjoyable. The landscape looked like it came out of a movie.

The water was incredibly blue, and there was a waterfall right on the beach. Unfortunately people weren't allowed in this beach, so we could only look from afar.

We have gone on more trips since, but I haven't been bringing my camera. Both my camera and lenses are almost 5 years old, and they've been rattling like maracas and refusing to focus on things. Hopefully I will be able to replace them within the next couple of years. For now I will have to keep trying to make them work!

Finally, Our Summer Video

While on the road we tried to take as many videos as we could, so that we could make a small movie to remember our trip. In the end we didn't take as many as we would have liked to, but it was enough to make this short clip!

Here is our first movie!

(Forgive the quality in some parts. Many of the videos were taken from our phones)

On the Road: The End

About a week ago we finally made it to the Bay Area. We drove here from Salt Lake City, and went straight to trying to find a home. We had a couple of days to walk around San Francisco, and although we didn't get to see too much, we realized that we moved to an incredible city!

Throughout the drive from SLC the landscape went from this....
...to this.
California is an incredible state, and I can't wait to explore it as much as I can. The moment we crossed the border, the landscape changed into something that you only see in the movies. With mountains and lakes right on the side of the road. This was the perfect ending to our long long trip.

Looking for a place to live in this area is very hard, especially when you are on a budget. But eventually we found something! Since then we have been settling in, and I have been preparing for the beginning of classes. Sadly, I will not have much time for adventure or interestingness in my life, so we will see what this blog becomes. Hopefully it won't die!!

Good luck to anyone who is starting classes this week!

On the Road: Utah - Arches National Park

After leaving Florida we flew to Texas to pick up all of our things, and start the drive to California. The trip wasn't too eventful. We stopped for a couple of nights in Santa Fe, and then drove to Salt Lake City to spend a couple of days there. Even though we didn't have much time to stop on the road, Utah was so beautiful that we had to visit Arches National Park for an hour. Utah ended up being one of the least boring states to drive through. The southwest is incredible, and I hope that one day I get a chance to explore it more. Here are some pictures that we managed to take on the run!

Delicate Arch. One day we'll hike up to it. One day.
Balanced Rock
Ready to go back on the road!

On the Road: Southern Florida!

We spent the last two weeks of the "relaxed" part of our trip in Florida with my family. After this the trip became really chaotic and we didn't have much chance of doing anything fun. While in Florida, we got to spend time with my little nephew, who gets 5 inches taller every time I see him. We went to the beach, and lounged around aaaall day. Who knows when will be the next time I'll be able to do this?

On the Road: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The day after our night at New Orleans we drove all the way to Florida. Our final destination was south Florida, but we ended up making it only to Orlando. There we had to stop by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

The park was very nice, but overly crowded. And then it started pouring on us while we were waiting in line. Regardless of all this, we were had a lot of fun. We got to drink real butterbeer(!), and have a small childish adventure in the middle of our long and tiring move.

Snow in the middle of the summer in Florida!

On the Road - Dinner at New Orleans

While driving to Florida we decided to spend the night in New Orleans! We found a really cheap hotel, and decided to walk over to Bourbon St. for dinner! It was a sunday night, so we weren't expecting a large nightlife scene, not even open restaurants, but we were wrong. There was a huge party there. The street was closed for drunk people to zigzag all over, and you could hear music in every corner. I can't even imagine what this place is like during holidays!

I had Cajun food for the very first time. (Don't laugh at me, but I had no idea that cajun food was from Louisiana.
I thought it was probably from some country far far away)
It was smokey and very movie like.

On the Road - Texas (Part 2): Austin

After spending some time in Dallas we went to spend a couple of days in Austin with our friend Gavin.
Austin was a bit out of the way, but we decided to do it anyways, because who knows if we will ever get another chance?

We tried to do a lot. We ate all over the place, hung out in bars in every corner of town, waited for the biggest colony of urban bats to come out from under a bridge, and visited Barton Springs (a very strange but cool 'natural'ish pool that I had heard of through Joanna from A Cup of Jo).

Here are some pics!

On the road.

On the Road - Texas: Caddo Lake and Dallas World Aquarium

This August I will be starting grad school in California, so within the next month I will be going crazy with moving plans. I drove my car to Florida to visit my parents, and I am sadly selling it since I will go back to being a full time student (= full time poor). While driving here from New Mexico, we stopped by Dallas, TX to visit Lilo's parents. We went to Caddo Lake, and to the Dallas World Aquarium! Here are some pics of those days!

It was soooo crowded
