New Mexico: Kakawa Chocolate House

The first time Lilo came to visit me we found Kakawa. This is a pretty popular chocolate house in Santa Fe known to make really good hot chocolate, as well as truffles of all sorts of flavors. We ordered a small hot chocolate and some truffles. When we got the hot chocolate we were really confused, since it the tiniest thing! (tinier than a very small expresso) However, it was very very very thick, so it ended up being fine.

The flavors we got were earl gray, milk and honey, pumpkin spice and of course, red chile.

New Mexicans put chile on EVERYTHING. When I first got here last summer all the grocery stores were selling huge boxes of green chiles, and people would buy a box and go to the parking lot, were somebody would roast the chile's for them. Everyone I know has big bags of chile from the summer in their freezer (A secret: I hate it). Of course then, it wasn't surprising to find a pie with green chile at Kakawa. If it wasn't because chile has been put on my food against my will since I got here, I would have tried it, just to be adventurous. But I swear I can taste it by just thinking about it, and no thanks.

Our favorite truffle was the pumpkin one. I don't even love pumpkin spice, but this was amazing. The earl gray truffle was incredibly flavorful. It tasted just like tea! the milk and honey tasted like just that, but it wasn't amazing. And the chile one, well, it had chile in it, but for anyone who likes that (pretty much everyone in the state) it would have probably been the best.

If you ever come to Santa Fe you should consider this place. Then try that pie and tell me if it was good!
